A yummy recipe, cabbage fried with Bengal gram, tastes different, good sidedish for Chapathi & Rice.

Servings: 4 Persons


Split Bengal gram – ¼cup (Kadalai Paruppu)

Cabbage – ¼kg (chopped 2 cups)

Onion – 1 cup (Optional)

Mustard – ¼tspsp

Cinnamon – 2pcs

Cloves – 2nos

Chilli Powder -2tsp

Turmeric Powder – ¼t

Salt – to taste

Oil – 4tsp

Coriander leaves – 1 sprig, chopped

Curry leaves – 1 sprig


Soak Bengal gram for 2 hours in water.

Heat 1tsp oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, wait till sputter, add curry leaves, cinnamon & cloves.

Add Onion & saute for a minute, in medium flame.

Add Cabbage & bengal gram, add chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt & ½cup water.

Mix well, close with a lid, let the dal cooks well, saute often,if required add oil.

Make sure the water is drained completely & fried properly.


Dole out yummy hot Cabbage Dal Fry, garnish with coriander leaves.
