A yummy Steamed & less Spiced Snack, made with rice and steamed like idly.

Servings: 4 Persons


Idly Rice or Raw Rice – 2 cups

For Seasoning:

– Mustard – ½tsp

– Urad Dhal – ½tsp

– Chenna Dhal – ½tsp

– Red Chillies – 5 nos, cut into 1 inch each (You can use chopped Green chillies too..)

– Curry Leaves – 1 sprig, Chopped

– Coriander leaves – 2 sprigs, chopped

– Onion – 2nos chopped (optional)

Salt – to taste

Oil – 2 tsp


Soak Rice for 2 hours & grind it coarsely like for idly batter. Keep aside.

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, wait till sputters, add all other ingredients and Saute well in medium flame.

Add the grinded batter to the pan, along with salt and start mixing well in low flame.

Mixing will be bit tough, mix till the batter thickens like chapathi dough.

Remove it from heat, and keep the Idly cooker in Stove.

Shape the dough as per your wish and steam cook it in Idly cooker for 10 minutes.
