Madras Sambar Masala is the name given to this powder out-of-TamilNadu, but, usually called as Araichi Vitta Sambar or Hotel Sambar Masala in Tamil Nadu. Prepare Sambar in TamilNadu style & add this Powder at end, gives you a yummy flavour of Dhaniya Seeds .. Wow!! yummy!!


Thoor Dhal (1 cup) (Thuvaram Parupu)

Chenna Dhal(1cup) (Kadalai Parupu)

Red Chillies (2 cups)

Dhaniya Seeds (1 cup) (Coriander Seeds)

Dry Coconut (Grated ¼cup) (Optional)


Dry fry each ingredients in a thick bottomed pan, in low flame, one by one separately.

When ready, Cool them off.

Grind the above ingredients in Electric Mixie and store in a air tight container.


Prepare Sambar, when Sambar is ready, add 2tsp  of the above powder to the sambar, along with a small piece of jaggery and mix well, Close with a lid.
