A traditional Vadai with a hole is prepared using urad dal, a famous snack all over India.

  Servings: 4 Persons


Urad Dal (2 cup) (Uluntham Paruppu)
Green chillies (2nos, Finely Chopped)
Coriander Leaves (1tsp chopped)
Jeera (1tsp)
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying


Soak dal in water for an hour.
Drain from water. Grind using Electric Mixer to a smooth paste.
Mix rest of the ingredients. (except oil)
Brush pieces of plantain leaves or plastic sheets with water or directly use hands.
With moist hands, take a ball of batter and flatten slightly on the leaf.
Make a hole in the centre.
Deep fry in moderately hot oil till golden brown.


Dole out hot with Coconut Chutney or Sambar.
