Poricha Kulambu is a very traditional & authentic gravy prepared for rice in Tamil Bramins houses. I tasted this in one of my friends house. Any vegetables can be added, but, Drumstick is used frequently.
Servings: 4 Persons
Drumstick – 2nos (cut to 2inch length)
Tur Dal – ½cup (thuvaram paruppu)
Turmeric Powder – 3pinches
Mustard – ½tsp
Asafoetita – 3pinches (perungayam / hing)
Curry leaves – 2sprigs
Coriander leaves – 2sprigs
Red chilly – 2nos, cut into half
Ghee / Oil – 2tsp
Salt – to taste
Coconut – grinded to paste – ¼cup
Pressure cook dal, garlic & turmeric powder with required water & keep aside.
Heat Ghee/oil in a pan, add mustard, wait till mustard sputters.
Add asafoetida, red chilly, curry leaves, saute well.
Add 1 cup of water, cook the vegetable till soft, close with lid, add water if required.
When the vegetable is cooked, add dal, coconut paste, salt, sambar masala & bring it to boil.
Garnish with coriander leaves, Dole out yummy Poricha kulambu with rice.
