In Tamil-Pulicha Keerai & in Telugu – Gongura is a healthy green leaves with a sour taste. Tastes yummy when grinded with dry red chillies and roasted Coriander seeds. It is said that these leaves cures

Servings: 4 Persons


Fresh Gongura Leaves – 1 handful

Dry Red Chillies – 5 nos.

Coriander Seeds – 2 tsp (Dhaniya)

Black Urad Dhal- 2tsp (Uluntham Paruppu)

Either Ginger 1 inch cube (or) Garlic 6 cloves

Salt – to taste

Sesame Oil – 3 tsp (Nallennai)

Mustard – ½tsp


Heat 1tsp of oil in a pan. Roast all the above ingredients (except mustard & green leaves) in medium flame, keep aside.

Sauté the green leaves for 5 minutes in low flame.

Grind all the above with salt in a Electric Mixer to paste. Sprinkle water if necessary.

Heat remaining oil in the pan, add mustard, wait till it sputters, add the chutney to the pan, in low flame, wait till it boils.


Dole out yummy Sour Gongura Chutney for rice / idly / dosai.

When mixing with rice, try along with chopped fresh onions.. it tastes yummy!!

Store in a air tight container & refrigerate upto a month.
