A health snack – Sundal, is made with boiled Kaabul Chenna and seasoned. Mostly given in temples as prasadam in TamlNadu.

Servings: 4 Persons


Kaabul Chenna – 2 cups (Vellai Periya Kondai Kadalai)


– Mustard – ¼tsp

– Urad Dhal – ¼tsp

– Jeera – ¼tsp

– Asafoetida – 2 pinches

– Turmeric Powder – 2 pinches

– Fresh Grated Coconut – ¼cup

– Onions  – ¼cup Finely Chopped

– Green Chilly – 2nos. Finely chopped

– Ginger – 1inch cube Finely chopped

– Curry Leaves – 2 sprigs

– Coriander leaves – 2 sprigs – Finely chopped

Salt – to taste

Oil – 1 tsp


Soak dry peas over night or for 6-8 hours.

Clean & Pressure Cook with half salt.

Strain away water (Water can be used to prepare RASAM).

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, wait till sputters, add Urad dhal and all other seasoning ingredients.

Saute well in medium flame. Add Peas to the Pan, Saute well.


Yummy Hot Healthy Sundal is ready.
