This authentic Crispy Thavala Vadai is prepared using Rice & Dals with Spicy Red chillies & flavor of Garlic, a Yummy evening snack with Tea.

  Servings: 4 Persons


Raw Rice (½cup)
Thoor Dal (¼cup) (Thuvaram Paruppu)
Chenna Dal (½ cup) (Kadalai Paruppu)

Red chillies (8nos)
Sombu (1 tsp)
Garlic (8cloves, skin peeled)
Coriander Leaves (¼ cup chopped)
Asafoetida (¼ tsp)
Onion (1cup chopped)
Salt to taste
Oil for frying


Soak rice & dals for a hour.

Grind Rice, Dals, with Red Chillies, Garlic &Somb – coarsely. Use less water. If water is more, add rice powder.

Mix the batter along with onions, Coriander leaves, Asafoetida, Curry leaves and Salt.

Heat  oil in a thick pan, when ready, use spoon to take the batter & put it in oil, in medium flame fry, wait till golden brown crisp, turn the other side.


Dole out hot spicy Crispy Hot Thavalai Vadai, a yummy evening snack with Tea.
