Dumplings packed with minced vegetables & steamed, a delicious appetizer / snack / main course of China/Nepal/Tibet. I learnt this recipe in China Town of Kolkatta.

Servings: 4 Persons


For Dough:

All purpose flour / Maida (1 cup)

Salt (to taste)

Oil (2tsp)

For Filling:

Green chilly (1, chopped finely) (Optional) or Black pepper (1tsp, grounded)

Onion (1, chopped finely) (Optional)

Cabbage (1cup, chopped finely)

Garlic (4 cloves, chopped finely)

Ginger (1inch cube, chopped finely)

Carrot (¼cup, chopped finely)

Coriander leaves (1 sprig, chopped finely) (optional) or Lemon grass (1 leaf, chopped finely) (optional)

Soy sauce (1tsp)

Salt (to taste)


Make a soft dough by mixing flour, salt, water and a spoon of oil.

In a big bowl, mix salt, chillies, onions, cabbage, garlic, ginger, carrot, coriander leaves and soy sauce.

Make small balls from the dough, Roll them into a small flat circles; fill1 tsp of the filling in the middle.

Seal it and steam them in idly cooker for about 20 minutes.


Dole out hot yummy steamed Veg Momo with Schewan Sauce.
